So, the thing about Monday is that it's so mondayish. Yesterday was precisely that, and so I didn't have time to squeeze in the Monday Meme (one I've been saving up for aaaages). Never mind; this is my blog (well, mine and Lauren's) so I get to make up my own rules. Rule #1746: Monday Meme may be posted on Tuesday in case of extenuating circumstances. So, I present to you...
The I Love the Eighties meme!
The picture is of the entire bunch from my mum's side of the family (minus newlyweds Alan and Cindy who were honeymooning) on the 19th of April, 1987. I'm the little gap-toothed kid grinning and cross-legged in the bottom right. Lauren's the fat little girl in the denim pinafore held by the woman in the light blue hawaiian shirt. Ah, the class!
It's actually amazing; our family has grown and changed so much since then. Bunches of new cousins have been born, and nine of the single people (including kids) in that photo are now married, most of them with kiddies of their own. Two in the picture are no longer with us, and one of the brides yet to be has already passed away. Wow. Amazing to think that life can change so very much in twenty-one years.
On to the meme...
How old were you in 1980? I was a babe-in-arms.
How old were you in 1989? Nine!
Did you watch Transformers? We weren't allowed; too violent. But I do remember watching The A-Team. Hmm. This is inconsistent.
Did you see E.T. on the big screen? Nope, but I saw it on the small screen in the nineties.
Did you own a Rainbow Brite doll? No, but I loved her all the same.
What was the most annoying eighties style? Massive teased fringes. Oh, and shoulder pads!!
When someone says, "Who you gonna call?", you think: Ghost Busters! (I've never even seen it, but it's embedded so deep in my 1980s psyche I can't remove it).
Did you have a GoGo Ball? Yes! It was pink and purple.
Favourite style from the eighties? Bike shorts and massive tee-shirts, all the way.
Did you watch The Care Bears? Sometimes, and my uncle (the one not in the picture, gave me an adorable little yellow Care Bears suitcase).
Did you own a glo-worm? Yes! I had a glo-worm money-bank that I got for Christmas in 1987. It was adorable.
Did you own a slap bracelet? You betcha. They were all the rage at school.
Did you own a hypercolour shirt? YES! My uncle even had them printed for his round-the-world sailing campaign.
Did you have a crazy hairstyle? I had a pretty impressive mullet when I was two.
Name one thing you still own from your childhood: Pippi and Bippi, my twin teddybears with zips in their backs for storing PJs. I've had Pippi since I was four, and Bippi came along when my uncle (another one; they're awesome, quite obviously) found him and bought him, knowing my attachment to Pippi and assuming (quite rightly) that twin bears would be even more special. Bippi is much cleaner and nicer, having never been vomited on or scrunched quite so much. But Pippi's my favourite. Still.
Favourite slang word: Radicool. (Did anyone else say this, or did we just dorkily make it up?)
